It has been a while since we have posted a blog; sorry about that! We have been enjoying beautiful Greece; the weather has been much better than before. We love being back in Greece, because there are many lovely spots to park and we can unleash Sparta on almost every beach.
When we entered Greece from North Macedonia, we were immediately impressed by the colourful mountains and the windy roads. We made our very first campfire on this trip, which we were thrilled about! In and around Pindos National Park, we saw many old stone bridges and cobblestone paths. We hiked up to a monastary in Aoos Canyon and walked an ancient stairway down into and back up from Vikos Gorge. We even visited the monasteries at Meteora again! (We were there exactly two years ago.)
Still, however, we were in a bit of a hurry to get down South. It was getting way too cold for us to stay in the mountains! We drove down to the island Evia, the second largest Greek island. What we didn’t think of, was that the mountains on this island are also pretty high… so it was still a little cold up there! We thus drove all the way up and back down on the same day, to spend the night back at the beach. There are soooo many beautiful beaches here!
After Evia, we passed Athens to go to the Peloponessos. Right now, we are looking out over the Mediterranean Sea. In the next week, we’ll visit some historic and cultural sites in the ‘fingers’ of this Greek peninsula. Greece is an amazing country to travel by van, because the roads are (sometimes narrow but) good, mountains and sea are always around and you can find showers on most beaches. We love it!
